Description of the role:

This role involves supporting our pottery class in our Centre, giving opportunities for visually impaired people to develop and utilize their craft skills, socialize and enjoy themselves. You will assist them in their chosen activity, encouraging their ideas whilst not taking over, chatting and getting to know them and be a friendly presence that will draw people into activity at our Centre. Our volunteers are happy to help with setting up and tidying away sessions as well as making tea and coffee. Their our opportunities to help with exhibitions, displaying members work.

We run sessions for on a Wednesday 1pm - 3pm

The role will require a DBS Check. This opportunity is open to volunteers on a long term commitment and we would encourage people over the age of 18 to apply.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

No craft experience is necessary, training will be given.

Practical information:

2 hours per week. We are behind the train station and are a short walk from the bus station and bus stops. We are opposite the Victoria Car Park and disc parking. We have a small car park on site.

Organisation Information

The Centre is an independent, local charity that supports visually impaired people in Harrogate and the surrounding district. We seek to enable visually impaired adults from the age of 18 and above to live independently and provide opportunities to meet and interact with others. We offer Information technology training; provide advice on help that is available; information on visual impairments and have talking clocks. watches and other equipment to view and order if required
We run various craft and other groups (See the daily schedule) on a regular basis There are also opportunities to socialise, including meals out and excursions. In addition to activities in the Centre, we make home visits and run a telephone befriending service to help tackle social isolation.
