Description of the role:

This is an interesting and exciting opportunity to work with our Marketing and Development Manager as we seek to increase and diversify our number of visitors. We do have a marketing plan, which builds on our excellent reputation, but we now need help to implement it! This is an ideal opportunity to develop marketing skills and experience to add to, or boost, your career prospects or offers a change or challenge to your existing role by joining our ambitious team to support our marketing activities.

The role will involve:

• Website updating
• Maintaining the marketing database by adding emails for e newsletter circulation
• Identifying locations for poster/flyer distribution
• Maintaining a supply of posters, flyers and print materials for distribution by working with other volunteers
• Working with the Marketing Manger and Operations team to ensure marketing material at all 3 museums is current
• Working with the Marketing Manager to respond to social media enquiries
• Support other marketing activities at events
• There is the potential to expand the role to include some designing, photography or filming depending upon interests and skills to help create digital content.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

• Confidence in working with other volunteers and external organisations
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Organised and good at planning
• Attention to detail
• Good IT skills
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Some experience of marketing and administration is useful
• Knowledge of the local area and local organisations would be useful when researching and planning distribution
• A flexible, adaptable and friendly approach

Practical information:

How much time will I be expected to give?

• Hours are flexible but expected that the role will require approx. 4 – 6 hours per week

Where will I be based?

• The museum offices are based at the Workhouse Museum
• Some of the role may be done from home

Organisation Information

Preservation of historic buildings and artefacts, education services and responsible for The Prison & Police, The Workhouse and The Courthouse Museums in Ripon. We have around 140 volunteers who fulfil a variety of roles which range from helping with education visits to gardening, cataloguing the collections to keeping our accounts, repairing brickwork to researching the stories behind the buildings.
