Description of the role:

As an Events Volunteer, you will play a vital role in helping Ripon Museums to engage, inspire and entertain its audiences, using the collections and stories associated with the Workhouse Museum, the Prison & Police Museum and the Courthouse Museum. This is a fantastic opportunity to use or develop event planning and delivery skills to help the curatorial team and gain an insight in the operations of a museum.

What will I be doing?

- Assisting the Curator with the planning and delivery of a programme of events and activities at the museums
- Contributing ideas towards the events programme for the following year
- Volunteering as part of a small team
- Liaising with the Curator and curatorial team, and the learning team
- Being aware of emergency procedures as required

- Interest in museums and collections
- Good organisation and planning skills
- Creativity when developing ideas for events
- Ability to work as part of a small team and on own initiative when required

Practical information:

How much time will I be expected to give?

2-3 hours per week; days are flexible

Where will I be based?

Mainly based at the Workhouse Museum

Following an application process with the Volunteer Manager, new volunteers join the team and become registered volunteers with Ripon Museum Trust.

Organisation Information

Preservation of historic buildings and artefacts, education services and responsible for The Prison & Police, The Workhouse and The Courthouse Museums in Ripon. We have around 140 volunteers who fulfil a variety of roles which range from helping with education visits to gardening, cataloguing the collections to keeping our accounts, repairing brickwork to researching the stories behind the buildings.

Working with Dementia Forward and the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate, Ripon Museums have fun activities for people with dementia, their families and carers.
