Chair Person
Little Crickets Pre-school
Description of the role:

Would you like to meet new people and share your skills and knowledge, whilst also learning new skills? Our local pre-school needs a new Chair Person. We are looking for someone to work with other committee members (currently we have 5) to help with the running of our very friendly Little Crickets pre-school for children aged 2- 5yrs).
Our current Chair person is stepping down at the end of May 2018 but a complete handover would be provided. The Chair person role is varied but mainly involves facilitating & chairing board meetings, (approximately 6 per year) liaising & supporting the pre-school manager, undertaking manager appraisals, sitting on appointment & disciplinary panels, representing the organisation to external bodies and acting as a signatory for finance. The Chair person works as part of a team with other committee members who together are responsible for ensuring the pre-school is managed effectively & efficiently, and that all legal requirements are met & maintained.
Little Crickets pre-school is a not for profit organisation, which is a Limited company and a registered charity. It was established back in 1974 as 'Harlow Hilltop Pre-school'. Please have a look at our web site for more information on

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are looking for someone from the local community with good communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive outlook. Most communication is done via emails so computer skills are required and access to the internet. No formal qualifications are required but we welcome anyone over 18 yrs and if you already have any finance, legal, management, IT, administration or organisational skills then this would be an advantage. The role involves working well as a team player with other committee members so we would like someone who is enthusiastic and committed to providing an excellent learning environment for our pre-school children.

Practical information:

The Chair Person role involves attending and chairing approximately 6 board meetings each year (usually Thursday evenings), which are held at the pre-school. Supporting the pre-school manager currently involves meeting at the pre-school every 2-3 weeks for approximately 2 hours, but this is very flexible to suit the availability of the Chair Person. Administration time spent at home is approximately 1-2 hours per week. Informal visits are welcome to discuss further. An induction pack and training is provided.
