Description of the role:

The volunteer will act as group host to our Ripon Carers group held in Community House in Ripon. The role will entail: setting up the room, registering clients on arrival, making cups of tea, talking to clients, washing up, putting the room back in order at the end of the session. (delicious homemade cakes at this group)

The group meets on the second Tuesday in the month at 2.30pm.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

This role is for someone who is very sociable, willing to be part of a team to work alongside fellow volunteers and staff, someone who enjoys chatting, has some knowledge or understands the role of unpaid “Carers” .

Practical information:

An initial informal chat will be held at the Harrogate office, although alternative arrangements can be made if this location is not convenient.

A Carers Resource volunteer’s application form needs to be completed; An induction will take place in the Harrogate Office, after references have been received. For this group role, training will take place at community house on the day of the meetings and thereafter until you are settled and comfortable in your role. We do cover volunteers travel expenses, either the cost of using public transport or fuel allowance if you use a car.

Carers' Resource gives tailored and confidential support and information to unpaid carers and vulnerable people. The service is open to everyone and offers information and practical and emotional help to enable them to cope. Help is given to find training and employment opportunities and there are social and leisure opportunities for carers. Help is also available to parent carers looking after a child with disabilities. Young Carers are also supported through the Young Carers' Resource project.
