Description of the role:

Mill Assistants take an active role in conserving the Mill, from sharing its story with visitors to maintaining machinery and conservation cleaning. You’ll work alongside a team of General Assistants and caretakers to keep the mill looking great, running smoothly and intriguing visitors from all over the world.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

This role will suit people who: are dedicated to inspiring visitors and making their visit special; can deliver excellent customer service; are reasonably fit and able to carry out basic maintenance and cleaning; are able to work as part of a team and independently; and have a muck-in, can-do attitude. You’re able to see what needs to be done, and do it!

Practical information:

Mill Assistants commit to a rota comprising sessions of about 3 hours duration. They normally volunteer at least once a fortnight. Mill Assistants are expected to attend the following training: Two day Estate Induction, Service Promise training, Role specific training. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be paid up to a maximum of 40 miles, and other reasonable expenses agreed in advance.
