Description of the role:

Swanley Grange was a medieval mini-farm, and it’s time to bring it back to life. Looking after the day-to-day maintenance of the Grange, Swanley Grange volunteers are a big part of the visitor experience, as well as having a great experience themselves. The role will include: Welcoming and engaging with visitors; Maintaining a vegetable garden; Looking after sheep and hens; Keeping craft resources well stocked and tidy.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

This role will suit people who have an enthusiastic and friendly manner, are practical and have a “muck in” attitude, are happy to work with animals, are keen to learn and are passionate about conservation and the aims of the Trust. It would also be great if you have a traditional craft skill, such as wood turning or weaving, though this isn’t essential.

Practical information:

You’ll be able to contribute regularly to our rota, at least once a fortnight, offering morning or afternoon sessions. You’ll be expected to attend the following training: Two day Estate Induction, Service Promise training, Role specific training. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be paid up to a maximum of 40 miles, and other reasonable expenses agreed in advance.
