Education Volunteer

Education Volunteer
National Trust - Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal
Description of the role:

If you enjoy working with children, like “mucking in” and you’re a confident communicator this may be the role for you! Working with school groups you could be immersed in an art workshop, searching a hedgerow to find minibeasts, or be dressed as a monk bringing history to life for a group of 12 year olds.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Are child friendly, approachable and enthusiastic about learning. You’ll enjoy sharing your knowledge and skills and get a real buzz from seeing children bursting with enthusiasm and gaining confidence during their visit. You’ll be a confident and capable communicator, able to adapt your language to the needs and maturity of your audience. Your enthusiasm will captivate the children but you’ll also need to be calm and composed should the situation need it. Previous experience working with youngsters isn’t necessary, but may be useful.

Practical information:

Commitment is variable according to school bookings but typically once a fortnight, or more if you can. Education volunteers are expected to attend the following training: Two day Estate Induction, Service Promise training, Role specific training. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be paid up to a maximum of 40 miles, and other reasonable expenses agreed in advance
