Project Assistant

Project Assistant
North Yorkshire Rotters
Description of the role:

Are you interested in protecting the environment? Would you like to be involved in planning and leading workshops that help children to learn about home composting and the benefits of reducing food waste. If so volunteering with the North Yorkshire Rotters could be for you! The North Yorkshire Rotters are volunteers that help their community to learn about ways to reduce waste and also save money. By promoting the Love Food Hate Waste and Home Composting campaigns volunteers can help their community to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, save up to £60 per month and really help the environment too! As a Volunteer Project Assistant there are opportunities to teach about home composting and help to develop the ‘mini wormery’ workshops that we deliver to schools and community groups in the area.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Volunteers should have good communication and teamwork skills; be enthusiastic about the topic to be delivered and want to help children learn about environmental issues. Volunteers have an informal meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator to find out more about the project. A volunteer handbook and role specific training is provided and travel expenses are reimbursed for volunteering with the project. Volunteers are supported by the Volunteer Coordinator and there are opportunities to be part of a team and learn about the project from volunteers who have been with the project for some time. This is also an excellent opportunity to gain experience of promoting a worthwhile cause to the public in a community role.

Practical information:

As a volunteer with the project you will receive role specific training and are reimbursed travel expenses for volunteering. If you are interested in finding out more about the North Yorkshire Rotters and would like to find out how you can become a Rotter then why not contact the Volunteer Coordinator!
