Description of the role:

The garden volunteer team have worked enthusiastically to restore the demonstration garden using the best combination of historical planting and modern horticultural techniques. The Workhouse garden is an integral part of the visitor experience of the museum. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your interest in gardening and horticulture and knowledge for the practical tasks within the role.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Some understanding of gardening would be useful as would the ability to volunteer as on own initiative and follow instructions.
Enjoy being outdoors and working with others

Practical information:

Current garden team meet Tuesday and Saturday mornings with additional planning hours. This is not fixed. Hours are flexible and can be discussed.

Organisation Information

Preservation of historic buildings and artefacts, education services and responsible for The Prison & Police, The Workhouse and The Courthouse Museums in Ripon. We have around 140 volunteers who fulfil a variety of roles which range from helping with education visits to gardening, cataloguing the collections to keeping our accounts, repairing brickwork to researching the stories behind the buildings.

Working with Dementia Forward and the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate, Ripon Museums have fun activities for people with dementia, their families and carers.
