Description of the role:

Giving individual support to adults with learning disabilities, within a group setting, under the guidance of the course tutor. No experience required as you will be volunteering under the supervision of the tutor, but you must enjoy helping people, have patience and a good sense of humour. The group meet on a Monday afternoon from 1.30 to 3.30pm. All volunteers receive a short induction about learning disabilities and the objectives of the organisation before starting. There is a more detailed course which volunteers are required to attend, and this is held about twice a year. All volunteering is subject to satisfactory references and DBS check. A criminal record is not in itself a bar to volunteering, but certain kinds of offence will automatically exclude the applicant.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Organisation Information

The Walled Garden is a Victorian kitchen garden open to visitors and the community. With a garden nursery, tea room, shop and orchard, supporting people with disabilities.
Ripon Community Link supports young people and adults with learning disabilities to learn and develop skills and grow in confidence.
Our Members can enjoy learning about horticulture and retail in the gardens.They also learn about catering, in the Tea Room and our fortnightly "pop up cafe", and practice newly acquired skills in our partnership with Sunnyfield Lodge Care Home.
This is in addition to a varied programme of activities designed to support learning needs including numeracy, literacy, drama, music, swimming, arts and crafts, conservation plus much more!
