Description of the role:

Role & Responsibilities: Support the running of the Walled Garden shop to the highest possible standard. Assist in the maintenance of shop stock, and clean and tidy presentation. Help people with learning difficulties to achieve their goals through skill development and practice and purposeful service delivery in our shop. Serve customers and carry products to their vehicles.

Purpose: To enable people with learning difficulties to achieve their goals through skill development and purposeful service delivery of our shop. To support the work of the Walled Garden by giving specific attention to the shop area and presentation. To promote the Walled Garden shop operations in a healthy and safe way, to give good customer service, delivering good quality produce. In summary: assisting in the running of the shop and supporting people with learning disabilities who are also in the shop. We are seeking people with a good eye for sales presentation, with initiative and interest to develop our product lines and service. Post holders also need to be confident in training, enabling and supporting people with learning difficulties. This is an ideal role either for someone looking to give to their community their retail experience and skills, or to develop these skills through experience and new opportunities. We welcome a team of volunteers. Therefore being able to offer anything from a day a week to 6 days a week would be a valuable contribution. The shop is open Mondays to Saturdays 10am - 4pm in the summer (with weekend closure in January and February).

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

No specific qualifications are needed. Some retail experience or demonstration of skill in this area is desirable. For someone looking to go onto to further employment, we are happy to support skill development and give references. This can be a shared role or one that a group of people could do together.

Practical information:

We will provide an onsite initial induction as well as induction to Ripon Community Link as a whole and an understanding of the volunteer we do. We also offer training sessions on key aspects for volunteers. Support in learning the role and responsibilities will be given and the volunteer is welcome to access other training opportunities and support within Ripon Community Link.

Organisation Information

The Walled Garden is a Victorian kitchen garden open to visitors and the community. With a garden nursery, tea room, shop and orchard, supporting people with disabilities.
Ripon Community Link supports young people and adults with learning disabilities to learn and develop skills and grow in confidence.
Our Members can enjoy learning about horticulture and retail in the gardens.They also learn about catering, in the Tea Room and our fortnightly "pop up cafe", and practice newly acquired skills in our partnership with Sunnyfield Lodge Care Home.
This is in addition to a varied programme of activities designed to support learning needs including numeracy, literacy, drama, music, swimming, arts and crafts, conservation plus much more!
