Description of the role:

A Fundraising Trustee is needed to join the local award-winning charity, Open Country. Trustees have a shared responsibility for the strategic development of the organisation which has been running for over 25 years. The Management Committee has developed a new three year business plan which will require an effective marketing strategy that increases the profile of and support for Open Country.

Open Country wish to recruit an experienced individual to the voluntary role of Fundraising Trustee. This is both a strategic and hands on role. It should give the Trustee the opportunity to develop their fundraising knowledge and expertise, as well as gaining experience as a member of the Management Board of a highly successful charity.

Specific responsibilities for this role:
- Understand Open Country’s purpose and stakeholders and key marketing messages and use these to develop a fundraising plan to deliver the agreed annual fundraising target via the Marketing and Fundraising Sub Committee whose members include the PR, Marketing and Fundraising Trustees.
- Developing and guiding our annual fundraising plan to meet agreed targets.
- Help to increase the profile of Open Country via local, regional and national media channels.
- Advise on Open Country’s approach to securing funds from some of the following: individual giving (including major donors and legacies), trusts and foundations, community events and corporates.
- Advise on effective ways to raise funds for Open Country and participate in the preparation of some applications for funds.

General trustee responsibilities:
- Attend quarterly management committee meetings (early evenings arranged at a time to suit all the trustees). - Assist with the development of and support the relevant Open Country staff to implement the business plan.
- Volunteer with the management team to ensure the governance and strategic management of Open Country is effective and complies with the requirements

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are ideally looking for someone who has experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience of volunteering at a managerial/ decision making level in business.
- Experience of fundraising strategy in charitable/not-for-profit organisations.
- Understanding of a marketing led approach to fundraising.
- Experience or knowledge of fundraising from private and or charitable sector sources.
- Ability to volunteer as a team player in the collective effort of securing Open Country’s financial future.
- Willingness to advocate on behalf of Open Country to business contacts.
