Description of the role:

We are enthusiastic about volunteering opportunities and believe NY Horizons is a great place develop your skills and help support local communities.

We appreciate that people volunteer for a variety of reasons; some may have had previous personal experience in treatment services; some may simply be considering a career change; others may want to enhance their study or practical learning experience.

If you possess commitment, enthusiasm and a general interest in this area of volunteer, we would more than welcome an application.

Good interaction and communication skills are also helpful as there are many front line duties which involve interaction with clients on an individual and group basis.

Volunteer responsibilities are varied and NY Horizons recognises the unique and individual skill-set that each volunteer brings to the project.

The below are guidelines and not an exhaustive or definitive list:
- To promote a positive, collaborative and recovery-focused work ethic within the service and local community whilst acting at all times to uphold the good reputation of the service.
- To ensure that all visitors to the service (including clients, families/carers, professionals and the general public) are welcomed in a responsive, helpful and professional manner.
- To ensure clients' and professionals' experience of NY Horizons is positive.
- To be able to volunteer flexibly across the drug & alcohol treatment service both within service hubs and in the wider community.
- Proactively maintain professional knowledge and volunteering practices. Read and comply with all published Lifeline policies and procedures, at the start of volunteering and whenever they are added to or changed.
- To volunteer within professional boundaries maintaining safety and appropriate confidentiality at all times.
- To demonstrate commitment to Lifeline's statements of Mission, Vision and Values and strategy, ensuring that they inform, and are embedded within, service delivery and practice.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Those interested in Supporting our services and service users. People that have experience of substance misuse or have been affected by it are in recovery and stable and now perhaps want to give something back to support others.

Our aim is to help as many people as possible to recover from drug and alcohol dependency in North Yorkshire. One to one support, structured group therapy work, local recovery groups and mentoring.
