Museum Steward

Museum Steward
Nidderdale Museum
Description of the role:

Museum Stewards are needed to welcome visitors to the museum, ensure they get the most from their visit by answering any questions, and taking their admission fees. Volunteers also ensure that the museum and exhibits are kept clean and tidy. If you are interested in local history and like talking to people this could be for you.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

No formal skills or qualifications are required, though you must be friendly and welcoming and happy to talk to visitors about the museum and its exhibits. An interest in museums and local history would be useful.

Practical information:

Training will be offered in all aspects of being a steward, as well as familiarisation with the room exhibits. Stewards work in pairs, but you do not need to volunteer as part of a pair.

Stewards often volunteer to do one or two duties each month over the summer, and perhaps one or two weekend duties over the winter, but you can choose to be more or less involved. Further information is available on request.

Organisation Information

The Nidderdale Museum has a large collection illustrating all aspects of life in Nidderdale. It reflects the life of people in imaginative and realistic settings. We have sections devoted to agriculture, industries, religion, transport and costume, set out across 11 rooms.

The Nidderdale Museum is entirely run and staffed by volunteers and we welcome new members. As well as supporting the Museum, the Society has its own programme of activities, talks on topics of local interest during the winter and walks in the local area in the summer.
