Description of the role:

The workshop Assistant - Sewing role assists our workshop supervisors in supporting adults with learning disabilities to make fabric sewn craft products and to safely use a sewing machine, scissors, iron, pins and other sewing tools and equipment. These products are sold at craft fairs, on our website or may be for a specific order. Induction, training and support will be given.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

We are looking for someone who ' Wants to support and enable others to achieve their goals ' Is sociable and enjoys talking to people ' Has sewing skills and can use a sewing machine ' No specific experience necessary but must be willing to learn and follow instruction Minimum time commitment half day a week

As well as producing and selling high quality products, our workers are trained in numeracy, literacy, computers and communication skills through a rolling programme of assessment and evaluation.

Our aim is to bring self-awareness, pride, dignity and self-confidence to the Workers and to help develop their potential for participation and employment in the community.
