Overseas Volunteering - International Citizen Service

Overseas Volunteering - International Citizen Service
International Service
Description of the role:

Looking for a life-changing three months overseas? Want to join with other young people from around the world and volunteer as an agent of positive change? A placement abroad with International Service is for you. Funded by the Department for International Development, ICS gives 18-25 year olds from across the UK the opportunity to make a difference to the world's most marginalised communities, whilst gaining transferable skills and invaluable experience. You don't need cash or heaps of qualifications; just the ambition to make a positive impact on the world in which you live. International Service offers volunteer overseas placements in Latin America, the Middle East and West Africa, and volunteers in areas such as female empowerment, disability rights and child poverty. You could be a part of this global mission for equality and justice; challenge yourself to change your world.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Volunteers don't need specific qualifications. We're looking for volunteers who are committed to helping others, adaptable, and good at volunteering in a team. Language skills aren't a requirement of the scheme. They must be living in the UK. If they don't have a British passport, they must have indefinite leave to remain in the UK, or be an EU/EEA citizen living in the UK. The scheme is for everyone regardless of their financial background. The scheme is inclusive and includes people with disabilities (there is special funding to send support volunteers etc), people who have criminal records (to some extent) and people who are on job seekers allowance (there is a rapid reclaim process so that they are able to receive it quickly upon return to the UK).

Practical information:

Volunteers will be placed overseas on one of International Service's projects with local partners in Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ghana or the occupied Palestinian territory. We are a friendly York-based charity and training and preparation before departure will take place in York.
