Description of the role:

The weekly lunch club is open to anyone over 60 residing in the Boroughbridge area. BCC clients residing in Boroughbridge can use the BCC minibus free of charge to attend. The lunch club is held in Gwendolen Court, courtesy of Anchor Housing between 11.45am and 1.15pm. BCC operate five teams with 3 members in each team working on a rota basis. The teams are assisted every two weeks during term time with 2 students from Boroughbridge High School. The volunteer role is to set tables, serve food, clear tables and wash up. There are an average of 28 guests each week at the lunch club. Meals are available to all volunteers as required.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

First aid and food handling certificates would be an asset, although not essential as training will be offered.

Organisation Information

Established to help the disadvantaged and disabled members of the community regardless of age. Seeks to meet the needs of the local community. Recruits volunteers to help provide a lunch club and minibus & car transport. Services include visiting and shopping. Holds regular Friday coffee mornings.
BCC has its own minibus, driven by qualified volunteers. Outings to local areas of interest are organised throughout the year which are open to all residents regardless of age. The minibus is also available for local groups and organisations to hire. The minibus is fitted with rear loading hoist for wheelchair access.
Wheelchairs are available for short or long term loan.
