Visitor / Befriender

Visitor / Befriender
Age UK Knaresborough & District
Description of the role:

If you would like to befriend or visit an older person in their own home or in nursing or residential care, Age UK can introduce you to someone who needs support and friendship and possibly advice. You may wish to make a regular arrangement with one individual, or perhaps occasional visiting when someone is in particular need might suit you better. In addition to simple visiting, some volunteers may be able to offer practical help such as shopping (either with your matched service user or for them), outings, light help in the house and garden, etc.

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

Good listening skills and empathy with, and a genuine wish to help, older people.

Practical information:

Training would be provided at Cliff House, in Knaresborough, but once matched with a service user you may be anywhere in the district (to suit you)
