Description of the role:

As a volunteer caretaker, you will be playing a vital role in helping Ripon Museums operate an external room booking hire system to help raise vital income for the Trust, which will help to preserve this important part of our heritage. This is a fantastic opportunity for a volunteer to develop a new service for the museums, connect with the local community and gain an understanding of the behind the scenes operations of a museum.

What will I be doing?

• Unlock and lock the premises as required to allow access for external customers, including disabling and setting the alarm
• To be a responsible key holder for the museum
• Liaising with the Operations Officer on forthcoming bookings and requirements
• To set up rooms as required. This may include setting out chairs, catering facilities etc.
• Ensure the room is clean and presentable for the hiree
• To greet the hirer and brief them on health and safety
• To tidy away chairs, catering facilities etc. after the room booking
• To ensure that the property is left in a secure state at all times

Following an application process with the Volunteer Manager, new volunteers join the team and become registered volunteers with Ripon Museum Trust.

• Following health and safety regulations
• Liaising with other staff and volunteers

Practical information:

Varied hours per month. These hours will generally be on an evening and/or weekend.

Training will be provided.

We have around 140 volunteers who fulfil a variety of roles which range from helping with education visits to gardening, cataloguing the collections to keeping our accounts, repairing brickwork to researching the stories behind the buildings.
