Description of the role:

Are you looking for an opportunity to use your creative flair in a welcoming and rewarding retail environment? Then we may have the role for you! We are looking for a creative, energetic and imaginative Volunteer Merchandiser to help us maximize selling opportunities in our furniture warehouse and promote Disability Action Yorkshire’s brand. Whether you already have visual merchandising experience or have a natural flair and are looking for some experience to enhance your CV, we can provide the opportunity to put your skills and ideas to good use.

Key tasks include:

• Carrying out internet research into current furniture, colour and décor trends
• Selecting stock for display
• Installing appealing, eye-catching displays with the aim of promoting products and increasing sales
• Dismantling displays
• Customer service

Skills and qualities needed for the role:

You will be given full training and any necessary ongoing support to carry out your volunteering role. We welcome and encourage volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and would particularly like to hear from volunteers who would enjoy using their creativity and commercial awareness to maximize sales.

The following skills and qualities would be beneficial:

• Ability to see the potential of all available stock and materials
• Interest in furniture and retail
• Ability to use large and small spaces effectively
• Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Reliability

Practical information:

We can be flexible but are ideally looking for a few hours support once a week during office hours.

Full induction and ongoing training provided.

Out of pocket expenses reimbursed.

Good transport links (very near Hornbeam Park railway station).

A personal assistance service working with disabled people within their own homes and the local community
Training for younger disabled people and adults in the skills required for employment, life skills and accredited courses, this is linked to a furniture warehouse selling pre-used, quality furniture, on a commission basis, to the general public
Our Enterprise Training Project aims to provide disabled people with the skills and knowledge to become self employed.
Offering advice and practical support on helping someone to live their life more independently, including advice on assistive technology
A buddying scheme matches volunteers to enable people to achieve personal life goals, whatever they may be
Our Think Access project we work with local businesses and community leaders with the aim of making Harrogate totally accessible
Fully accessible holiday accommodation in a beautiful lodge in the Lincolnshire Wolds
